Henderson Hall is a military installation in the United States of America. It is located in the closeness of the Pentagon, the local national cemetery and a different military facility – Fort Myer. The base is located in Arlington, Virginia. It spreads over more than 20 acres and hosts multiple facilities, such as the United States Marine Corps barracks and plenty of educational buildings. The base is operated by the United States Marine Corps, but under the jurisdiction of Fort Myer. In fact, the two installations work in a very tight collaboration. It is named after Archibald Henderson, the longest serving commander in the US Marine Corps. He spent more than five decades in this military force and is often referred to as the grand man. The current commander is Ira M. Cheatham.
History
The land Henderson Hall currently occupies was acquired by the officials between 1943 and 1952. The installation was among the projects taken during World War II for the United States of America to gain strength. Dozens of similar bases were built throughout the country, while many others were renovated and reactivated. The United States Marine Corps gained most of their popularity during World War II. The headquarters had a hard time finding a permanent place. It was relocated from one place to another until this base was finally commissioned. During the war, more than 2,500 female Marines were relocated on site. Most of them were released as the war ended. In 1946, there were almost no females in active duty, creating more open slots for the males.
Over the history, Henderson Hall lost some of its popularity around the armed forces. Therefore, it was taken in consideration by the Base Realignment and Closure commission from 2005. The authorities decided to mix it with the nearby Fort Myer. These days, the base is no longer an unofficially independent installation, but part of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The move combined all the units, tenants and troops deployed on site. The facilities are now shared.
Facilities
The facilities at Henderson Hall are not really encouraging. In fact, the situation is pretty critical. The most important facility is a home to stay at. The troops are automatically hosted on site, so there is nothing to worry about from this point of view. The real problem shows up when the civilian families are involved. There are absolutely no housing facilities for civilians inside the base. This would not really be a problem if the surrounding communities would not be extremely expensive. The metropolitan area of Washington implies some huge costs. The government tried its best by acquiring some housing facilities in the nearby human communities to rent out to the civilian families, but things are still quite harsh. Many of the Marines deployed at Henderson Hall live on the economy. Things are way harder for the married E1 to E4 members.
Aside from this problem, the nearby human communities have anything else you can think of. The facilities can satisfy the pickiest individuals without any problems at all.
