The Mountain Warfare Training Center is located 21 miles north or Bridgeport, California on Route 108. Training for mountainous, high altitude, and cold weather conditions is conducted here by the USMC and Allied Forces.

The base was established for training during the Korean War. Today, the MTC prepares soldiers for deployment in places like Norway, or more recently the mountainous regions of Afghanistan. 46,000 acres of land with elevations from 6,000ft to 11,000 ft are utilized for training courses like the: Mountain Sniper Course, Mountain Survival Course, and Mountain Communications Course.
