The Army is the oldest military branch, established on June 14th 1775. Today, there are more than 700,000 soldiers who fill many different positions: doctors, lawyers, engineers, computer programmers, logistic experts, and more still dedicated to their motto, “This we’ll defend.” Specializing in ground-based strategy, the Army also holds the largest amount of active service members than any other branch. The diverse variety of each independent Soldier’s prowess is what sets the Army apart from other military branches. When entering the Army, you can choose to enter as an enlisted Soldier or as an officer, be a full-time active duty soldier, or be a part of the Army Reserve. Discovering the right path for you is important and can determine where you will serve. There are three total sectors to the Army—active, Army Reserves, and the Army National Guard. Active duty personnel can be located anywhere in the world, while Army Reserve personnel will serve somewhere closer to home.
Being in the Army has its perks; not only can you travel the world, you’re collecting many benefits at the same time. Including allowances, educational benefits, and bonuses, every Solider receives a salary. Also, Soldier’s families gain health care, life insurance, and vacation time. When living on an Army base, new recruits usually start on the base depending rank, location, and family arrangements. Most of the bases having separate barracks for men and women, which are filled with shared bunks and bathrooms. Living on a base is similar to a town and community. There’s many services- dentists, doctors, shopping, post offices- around and other amenities on a daily basis. Before moving to a base, it’s recommended that you look up the base and understand all of the rules and what you’re getting yourself into.
The Army conducts focused training for progressive combat encounters. Outside of domestic bases, the Army sustains several permanent international bases in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Additionally, the Army can be found on the ground in areas of discord.
