Integrated Support Command Miami is one of the few similar commands run by the United States Coast Guard throughout the country. Just like the other centers, this one is responsible for the military troops – both active and retired – who need specific services. Each center supports a particular area. The one in Miami deals with the 7-th Division, which is also stationed there.

Mission

ISC Miami deals with a lot of services the military troops might need. One of the most important one is the housing. The housing facilities are extremely important, especially for the military troops who are deployed there from other parts of the country. Things are even more important for those who are married and must relocate along with their families. The housing opportunities imply high costs in Florida and especially in Miami. This is why the authorities try to provide some affordable services even before the troops relocate. As long as they complete their applications early, they should have an available spot by the time they reach the destination, according to their specific needs and necessities. A similar service is also maintained for the civilian personnel that works in the United States Coast Guard.

Aside from the active troops, ISC Miami is also responsible for the reserve and retired individuals established in the area. However, the housing system is not the only one available. The health services are just as important. In other words, all these integrated support centers are among the most advanced ones a military branch can benefit from. If you take a minute to think about it, the other armed forces in the United States of America don’t benefit from such services. Instead, most of them are dealt with locally.

History

Some of the similar centers were established long ago, during World War II. Others, on the other hand, are pretty new. ISC Miami is one of the new ones. It was commissioned in the spring of 1996. It was formed through the merge of a local military base and a few administrative services that were serving the 7-th District. Aside from the administrative services, there are a lot of financial buildings as well.

Starting with 2000, multiple United States Coast Guard facilities were taken through a massive restructuring process and this one was part of it too. Although the modernization program was decided right after the process began, the full changes were actually adopted by 2009. In the autumn of 2009, ISC Miami was split into three different units and services. The most important one is the BSU – Base Support Unit. It deals with the general necessities of the military troops and their families. Other than that, the PSSU – Personnel Services and Support Unit – is responsible for particular necessities of the troops only. In the end, the health care system was not left behind. Therefore, the third unit – Safety Worklife Field – manages all the health requirements of the Coast Guard base it supports. All in all, after the restructuring process, the service is now better organized and more effective.
