Contact Information
NAS Lemoore, California is located in the central part of the state and covers two counties – Fresno and Kings. A small part of it – the Lemoore station – is one of the few military based census designated areas. The military base is actually a jet base. It is the most important and largest such facility controlled by the US Navy.
History
The naval air station is not just the largest jet base of the United States Navy, but also the newest one. It was approved in 1960, when the construction began. Although not entirely finished, it was opened in 1961, when the first units arrived at the base. Among the most popular and useful facilities, you can count two long runaways located almost 1.5 km one from another, maintenance and repair hangars for the equipments, as well as parking spots. Although the base missed the most important wars of the last century – World War I and World War II, it played an active role throughout the upcoming conflicts, such as the Cold War.
The fact that the base was new and built with the latest technologies didn’t stop the US Navy from investing even more in it. Over the years, the naval air station went through a few major upgrades. In 1998, its shoulders had to hold a pretty huge responsibility. It was selected to be the West Coast host for the latest, most powerful and accurate aircraft at those times – F A – 18 E F Super Hornet. This “award” overpopulated NAS Lemoore California with almost 100 new aircrafts, close to 2000 military troops and more than 3000 family members. The update came with a new round of updates and improvements to support the new mission.
To push its limits even more, the US Navy didn’t stop here. It brought four extra squadrons at the base, resulting in more military troops and civilians inside. These days, the base “lived” to become the most important US Navy military base on the West Coast. In other words, the entire force of the Navy is hosted at this base, which hosts over 175 Super Hornets. Since it was directly designed and built as a jet base, this aspect provides multiple advantages, but also a few cons.
Units
The Strike Fighter Wing Pacific is currently the main unit hosted at NAS Lemoore. It consists of more associated squadrons. At the same time, the base is also home for the Carrier Air Wing 14, the Carrier Air Wing 2, the Carrier Air Wing 11 and the Carrier Air Wing 9. As for the associate and tenant units, there are just way too many to be mentioned here.
Housing
The housing system at NAS Lemoore is controlled by a local office responsible for the accommodation of every newcomer. The staff aims to provide a warm welcome and a proper home for your needs, especially if you plan to relocate with your family too. The off site housing opportunities are privatized.
