Former base for archive purpose only. Not active anymore
Camp New York is one of the most advanced military bases run by the United States of America abroad. It is located in Kuwait and was named after the important and well known metropolis. But what is the connection with the big city? Well, once you get inside the camp, you can easily figure out. The camp benefits from some of the most advanced facilities. A room inside the camp can easily take your thoughts to New York. Don’t imagine silk beds and luxurious hotels, but the general facilities will give you access to anything you can think of. The place was established in the Udairi Range Complex and it is not fully activated. In fact, it is in a standby mode these days. It is closely located to Camp Buehring, so it works as an adjacent settlement.
Mission
Camp New York was initially built on the remains of a previous fort that was used during Operation Desert Storm. Its purpose back then was to help the Kuwait troops against the Iraqi invasion. These days, the mission has not changed too much, only this time it was Kuwait’s turn to support the United States of America as they were invading Iraq. Therefore, the mission of the new camp was to come as a resting place or a checkpoint for all the troops going to and from Iraq.
History
The history of Camp New York dates back to Operation Desert Storm. Soon after the operation reached to an end, it was disestablished and abandoned. Around the 9/11 attacks that opened the war against terrorism, the camp was the only one in Kuwait and it was referred to as The Kabal among the natives. The first units got back on site after the deadly attacks on the World Trade Center. Some of them were returning from Operation Desert Spring, which implied peacekeeping operations and military support for the Kuwaiti forces.
The camp was opened and closed a few times since 2004. Therefore, it is a temporary post, especially since the most important operations are actually held at Camp Buehring. It played a major role during the Iraqi invasion, as most troops needed a place to rest while on their way to Iraq. The post was also used by the returning soldiers.
Facilities
Camp New York is mostly popular among the troops for its facilities. The dining facility is huge and can host up to 1,000 individuals without any efforts at all. There are also 9,500 beds and more than 20 shower trailers. With close to 350 portable toilets too, the camp gives its inhabitants access to everything they needed. The water is warm, while the electricity is handled by huge power generators. Most of the sleeping tents were fitted by air conditioning machines. Since the camp is established in the middle of the desert, such a facility can only make the soldiers happy when sent there. Other than that, the soldiers have access to American fast foods, such as Subway or Burger King, recreational centers, a phone center, a barbershop and a department store.
