The USAG Darmstadt Training Center is a non-active base that was shut down in 2008 when the authorities of the base were transferred to USAG Heidelberg in Germany.
The USAG Darmstadt Training Center was stationed with 22nd Signal Brigade and 66th Military Intelligence Group. Around 9000 personnel used to live with their families on the base. Approximately, there were 4000 families residing on base. The base encompassed both civilians and military personnel who worked for the US military. The USAG Darmstadt Training Center also had a German airfield captured in 1945. Many changes were made on the base for better functioning of the base.

Location of USAG Darmstadt Training Center
The base is situated around 30km from Heidelberg base and it encompasses a number of sub-communities within the base. The USAG Darmstadt Training Center used to host a number of US military programs. Some of the programs are still active today while others are closed. Interestingly, the USAG Darmstadt Training Center was also home to the military newspaper. Additionally, the base is also very close to city Frankfurt. Thus, all US military flights were strictly monitored by the United States Air Force Europe.
History
The history of USAG Darmstadt Training Center dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. The place was established before World War II, in 1936. The base was built to boost the military power of Germany before the start of the series of invasions. The host unit was the USMCA and it was later renamed as the 233rd Base Support Battalion.
In the year 2005, the base became a US Army Garrison after it was taken through a few updates and improvements. After the celebration of the new status, the officials got the bad news that the entire operations will be transferred to USAG Heidelberg. It resulted in inactivation and closure of the base.
Though USAG Darmstadt Training Center is history, the base still exists. The people, families, and facilities are still there. They remain as a small human community while most of the military purposes were somehow kept on site.
Amenities
An excellent thing about the USAG Darmstadt Training Center was that it had all the features of a city including a school, health care facilities, recreational activities parks, and more. The picturesque area is surrounded by mountains and greenery that provided families residing on the base with the perfect environment. The base was designed similar to German architecture. Some of the buildings in USAG Darmstadt Training Center even belonged to World Wars.
Aschaffenburg, a city situated in the north-west of Germany provided several numbers of faculties to the base including logistic services, military support, and other services to families residing in the area. The city also used to provide supplies to the base and supported several US military operations held in the area. But after its closure, the city does not offer services to Darmstadt base and does not support military operations.
