The United States Disciplinary Barracks, located in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, is a Level 3 maximum security correctional facility. It’s the only maximum security facility that houses male services member convicted for violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The USDB was first known as the United States Military prison in 1874 and was established by the Act of Congress. The indigenous USDB was the biggest/tallest building on Fort Leavenworth. ‘The Castle’ was the biggest part of the barracks but torn down in 2004. In 2002, the USDB was moved to a new spot on Fort Leavenworth and got a major upgrade worth $67.8 million. There are three housing units or pods which can contain up to 142 prisoners. The facility has received a 100% rating in 2012 looking at mental health services, safety, and more.
