The Naval Air Station Pensacola is said to be the naval aviation cradle. The base is located within the city limits of Pensacola. It is well known for the advanced training fields and programs for the Marine and Navy, as well as coast aviators or naval flight officers. Finally, the base also hosts the Blue Angels, a squadron trained to perform amazing and impressive demonstrations. In other words, it is a very complete base and among the most important ones in the United States. Other than that, the base has the proper equipments to train and teach surgeons and psychologists, but only for naval flight operations. Finally, you can also count a museum, a historic district, a national park and a national cemetery.

History

Believe it or not, the history of this base dates back to the 16-th century. Before this base, a Spanish explorer – Don Tristan de Luna – raised a little fort there as the American exploration began. Centuries later, in the 18-th century, John Quincy Adams – the US president at that time – saw the place as a perfect opportunity to build a navy yard. The construction was started in 1826. The first few years were spent dealing and organizing the slave commerce and piracy. The ships were patrolling throughout the Caribbean and the Gulf.

When the Civil War struck, the NAS Pensacola surrendered to the enemies. Before abandoning the place, the inhabitants tried to destroy everything and make the base unusable. After the war, the reconstruction began. Everything you can see today at the base was built after the Civil War. In 1906, it saw a new round of rebuilding after a massive hurricane and a huge tidal wave.

Before World War I, the base barely had a few trained aviators and pilots. At that time, it was the only naval air station. By the end of the war, in 1918, it had thousands of professionals ready to fight. As the war ended, most equipments were stored in the hangars around the camp. The same process took place in World War II, when the naval air station saw a huge upgrade, considered to be a wonder of the modern age by many.

The upcoming years didn’t come with any notable events. The Korean War caught the base unprepared, while the others were not as important. In 2006, the archaeologists found the remains of a ship from the 16-th century. In 2010, Captain William Reavey Jr. was relieved from the command for improper conduct.

Facilities

As one of the most important bases in the world, NAS Pensacola has to stand up to the expectations and provide a perfect environment for the workers and their families. The citizens benefit from all the modern world advantages, from schools and hospitals to recreational areas, theaters, cinemas and multiple services.

Housing

Due to the large size of the camp, the housing system usually takes a lot of time as there are many other newcomers in line. The best option is to relocate off site or simply go for the privatized system, while your application is being processed. It will most likely take months.
