This division, Navy’s center of excellence for ships and ship systems, is responsible for the maritime technology of the Navy. The 2000 scientists, engineers, and support personnel work in some of the best facilities and laboratories in West Bethesda, Maryland. Their main missions involve improving all of the technically aspects of the performance of ships, submarines, watercrafts, and vehicles.
The facility was previously known as the David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center and later was renamed David Taylor Research Center (DTRC) in 1987 and later became the Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in 1992.
Although there is no on base housing, there are plenty of off base housing available.
