NAF Misawa was founded in 1972 and is located on the largest islands of Japan near the northern tip of Honshu. It is an associate command whom is hosted by the US Air Force 35th FW. This air facility’s duty is to give aviation and ground logistic support while giving services to USN and USMC forces in Northern Japan. NAF Misawa hosts 13 lasting assigned associate and tenant commands. It holds nearly 160 personnel in the NAF and 700 personnel in tenant commands. Troops at Misawa are responsible for helping with airfield operations, aircraft maintenance, supply and logistics, fuel operations, ordnance operations, and intelligence.
