Military Scholarships are becoming more popular due to increasing funding from government assisted programs and non-profit associations.
The Federal government and nonprofit organizations offer multiple scholarships to partially and fully cover tuition costs for college to veterans, active duty personnel, as well as family related to members of the military. The Army ROTC, in addition to the Navy and Air Force ROTC programs are three of the nation’s biggest scholarship grantors, providing approximately $274 million in money to more than 13,000 students every year, according to the U.S. Army Cadet Command.
The Army ROTC, which provides military training and leadership courses at hundreds of colleges and universities across the country, has been active for more than 100 years. There are endless opportunities waiting for men and women in active duty, military veterans, as well as family members of military service members.
The Air Force ROTC similarly offers scholarships to help students with paying educational loans, covering the majority of school expenses including laboratory fees. In addition, students will receive an allowance for textbooks and up to $500 per month in spending cash for miscellaneous expenses.
For example, one of the leading scholarships for military personnel, the American Legion Legacy Scholarship, supports the children of fallen post-9/11 service members and dependents post-9/11 veterans with a disability of 50% or higher. The amount is up to $20,000 with the annual deadline on April 20th. Another popular scholarship, the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, honors the bravery of military personnel by awarding up to $25,000 to young American children dependent on active duty military personnel who were either killed in action or permanently disabled due to military operational mission or training accident.
These and many more scholarships exist primarily to help fund educational goals, whether looking to pursue a more civilian route or looking to gain education to further military pursuit and gain higher ranks, there are military scholarships waiting to assist in funding all types of education.
