Contact Information
Telecom Systems Command is one of the units the United States Coast Guard is responsible for. It deals with all the informational and computerized systems of this armed force. The command has multiple centers spread throughout the United States of America. The headquarters is located in Alexandria, in the northeastern part of Virginia. This side of Virginia is very popular when it comes to military installations and centers. Aside from the United States Coast Guard, it hosts multiple facilities belonging to the other armed forces too, especially the United States Navy. Today, the unit is commanded by Mark T. Powell.
Mission
Telecom Systems Command may not be involved in the field operations of the United States Coast Guard, but its purpose in this branch may be even more important. The unit makes sure the US Coast Guard benefits from the latest, most advanced and modern telecommunication systems in the world, including voice transfer and computerized transfers. The signal is never interrupted, ensuring a proper communication between all the facilities, installations, stations, units and military troops. This mission covers a wide variety of operations. The data systems are just as important, while the proper coordination of the military troops in action is vital for the successful rate of each operation.
Telecom Systems Command is by far one of the most advanced centers. It is at the forefront of technological systems. These experts work on developing new systems, while they also implement the latest technologies. They are easily able to handle today’s missions, while struggling to foresee and prepare for tomorrow’s operations. The peak of technology that describes this unit gave it an extra mission over the years – fighting and preventing the technological crimes. Decades ago, such things were not even given attention because they were not as popular. These days, they represent some of the most severe crimes, therefore this unit tries to combat them in a very effective way. In order to fulfill this second mission, it works in a tight collaboration with other major agencies.
The United States Coast Guard is responsible for ice patrolling, SAR (Search And Rescue) missions, environmental and maritime protection. All of these missions could never be fulfilled like they are today without Telecom Systems Command. The unit makes everything a lot easier. The communication is a vital part of the game, especially during emergencies.
However, this is not all. The unit consists of professional experts only. Some of them were deployed from other states, therefore they had to start over a new life. Things are not as easy for the individuals who are married and must move around with their families. Accommodating may not be as complicated for a professional, but the civilian families encounter a hard time trying to get familiar with a new environment and a different lifestyle. In order to make everyone feel like home, Telecom Systems Command aims to provide high quality facilities both on site and off site.
All these aspects make this command a very important center for the United States Coast Guard.
